Nerikomi Porcelain Jewelry

Nerikomi is a Japanese technique of combining different colored clays to create patterns within a single block of clay. Begin by learning how to mix vibrantly colored clays using mason stains. Then learn different techniques of layering your colored clays to create various patterns. Once the layering is complete, you will make colorful jewelry pieces from the finished patterned clay. Day one will focus on creation of the jewelry pieces and day two will focus on glazing/finishing those pieces. Materials fee includes porcelain clay. Please bring a sketchbook. Reference images will be available for inspiration, but students may bring their phone/laptop/tablet to search for their own.
