A Different Approach to Velvet Painting

Black velet as a painting surface has a richness that cannot be reproduced by paper. Painting on a velvet canvas will produce results with an incandescent glow. We'll see examples for inspriation by contemporary artists who have elevated the medium to a fine art. Working from dark to light and subtly applying acrylic paint to define forms will develop new ways of seeing and rendering imagery. The chiaroscuro effect of velvet paintings can produce results filled with the high contrast  and drama reminiscent of a Caravaggio or can add intensity to an abstract work. The instructor will provide a selection of imagery to chose from, or bring your own ideas!
