Nui Shibori - Stitch Resist Indigo Dyeing

CourseGraphic
Create unique, Japanese-inspired designs with just a needle and thread! Nui shibori (stitch resist) is a Japanese dyeing technique that starts by sewing a running stitch in a pattern or design. The threads are then pulled tightly to gather the cloth before submerging in indigo dye. Wherever the cloth has been gathered, dye will be resisted, resulting in beautiful positive and negative patterns, shapes, and images. No previous sewing or dyeing experience is required. Please wear clothes that can get dirty and bring a pair of long, cuffed rubber gloves.
