Explore how lighting, location, and creative direction can help you to move beyond the world of smart-phone selfies into the world of portrait photography. Concepts covered will include the photographer/subject relationship; choosing lighting (natural vs. studio); location (outdoor, environmental, or studio); and creative direction (color vs. black & white, choice of wardrobe, etc.). Each week students will take a portrait using different techniques in order to discover what a great portrait means to them. Students will learn how individual techniques, choices, and styles can meld with the personality of the subject to create a lasting and meaningful photographic portrait.
