Altering Slabs into Sculptural Forms

CourseGraphic
There are many ways to manipulate slabs into three-dimensional forms: swell, stretch, and expand from behind. Indent and distort, in addition to or instead of traditional sculptural techniques, so the subject begins to organically emerge out of the slab. Slabs can also be painted and stained with ceramic slips and oxides, and can become the basis of mixed media work after firing. These techniques are especially suited to rounded human and animal forms. Students will have the opportunity to work from a model in this workshop.
