Still-life painting is an artistic genre in its own right. Often used to train artists for other forms of painting, it has its own long history of richness and variety and has proven that simple objects can be made transcendent by exquisite composition and technique. This class will introduce students to the comparative measurement method of observation. Over the duration of this class students will learn the issues of composition, drawing, values, and color as they complete a simple still-life painting. Projects will follow a step-by-step approach of executing an initial drawing, color study, and final painting.
