Examining art is a way to explore and consider the human condition. A new offering in our popular Art Appreciation series, this five-week course will examine selected works from a multitude of art historical periods and cultures and how they express universal concepts such as emotion, conflict, and mortality. In addition to exploring the works’ surface narratives, we'll also delve into the deeper meanings. We'll discuss what the artist was expressing, the specific context in which a piece was made, and the larger, foundational archetype which the work explores.
To participate, students will need to have access to the following materials/tools in their home:
