Summer camp at the Art Center is a one-week, hands-on camp that gives middles school and high school students an in-depth studio experience. Designed to empower teen artists by engaging their creativity and building their skills, students are introduced to two forms of artistic expression each week. Small class sizes, grouped by age & experience, enable our instructors to take a deep dive with the students so that they can build technique and grow their individual style
Studio Concentrations for the week of August 20:
Expressive Ceramics/Comic Book Illustrations - Expressive Ceramics will cover hand-building, wheel throwing, and glazing techniques to teach students how to create expressive works of art in clay.Due to the production schedule of ceramics, it's not possible to hold the class over five contiguous days. So the students will also participate in Comic Book Illustrations where they will design their own unique comic book characters. In this class, students will get to develop an exciting storyline involving their very own characters. Students will work on short comic strips that either progress their story, or explore different characters and plotlines.
Figure Drawing - Through direct observational studies students will learn to draw the human form. Students will explore light and shading, and gain a better understanding of artistic anatomy.
