Come learn the ancient art of batik resist dyeing and add a contemporary twist! Apply molten wax to selected areas of fabric to repel dye, while the remaining areas to take on color. By using a slightly brittle wax, waxed areas will crackle and allow dye to penetrate, creating beautiful patterns. The wax and dyeing process can be repeated multiple times to add more colors, and create elaborate and colorful designs. After the final dye application, the wax is removed and the fabric can then be made into clothing, home textiles, or wall art. We will experiment with traditional and contemporary waxing and dyeing techniques, and perhaps develop a few of our own!
