Create unique, flowing forms by manipulating pots while throwing. Learn to have a give and take conversation with the clay and allow it to express itself in response to your touch. Encourage it to organically distort its shape, while maintaining control over how much and where it goes. Stress the clay by selectively thinning the wall, adding different-consistency clays, texturizing, fluting, or scarring, then depending on where and how you continue to throw and open the pot, you can let the shape swirl and distort and intentionally take the clay to partial collapse - while still controlling the emerging form. Try throwing only touching the inside and explore new unexpected surface textures. For students comfortable with basic wheel throwing who want to experiment with free-throwing techniques.
