Do you wish your paintings had a looser, more painterly quality? This class will offer techniques to help students achieve that goal. Each week, the class will study a different artist to analyze their paint and brush handling. Many famous painters, like Sargent and Matisse, learned by setting up an easel in a museum and reproducing the brushwork of earlier artists. Students will learn how other artists created a loose character and vitality in their work. Students will engage in weekly painting exercises, applying looser techniques to their own canvas. Students will gain practical skills and learn better painting habits, allowing more confidence and freedom, while the instructor will provide direction and support.
