CONTEMPORARY PRINTMAKING AT HOME WORKSHOP SERIES
Over the course of two three-hour online sessions, learn the basic techniques of printmaking without a press, in the comfort of their own studio spaces. Using materials and tools sourced from our homes and studios, we’ll explore the basics of monoprinting, relief printing and drypoint (intaglio) printmaking. Artists should anticipate ample instruction and demonstrations, troubleshooting and critique, hands-on work and group discussions. All live presentations will be held via Zoom or similar video conferencing tool. Sign up for one, two or all three sessions. This workshop series is ideal for beginners, and a perfect primer for more in-depth printmaking workshops and courses! No experience necessary!
Relief Printing by Hand
This workshop will introduce you to relief printing (linoleum printmaking) for one-color and multiple-color prints, ideal for fine art prints and surface design like textiles, yardage and clothing. Learn how to properly and safely cut and print a Soft-Kut linoleum block by hand using tools you may already have laying around your studio. We’ll delve into registration techniques (aligning layers of multiple colors) for reductive printing, and designing repeat patterns for large-scale printing. The workshop materials fee covers a specially curated art supply kit which will be available for pickup at the Art Center one week prior to the start date of the workshop. The kits are for students to keep for continued artmaking! Please click on the "What to Have at Home" link to see additional household items you will need.
To participate in online workshops students need to have access to a computer, tablet, or phone with internet and access to Zoom.
